Nominations for the David M Gipp Leaders Fellowship Awards have been requested from the department chairs of the three bachelor degree programs. Each program can nominate one student who meets the criteria. The Fellowships are awarded to United Tribes Technical College students who exhibit significant leadership qualities and who will clearly continue to display such qualities. Gipp Fellows should have clear goals about what they want to accomplish in life, and should have begun preparing for this work. Their goals must be related to the betterment of an Indian tribe or community. The fellowships are geared towards students planning to return to their communities, both reservation and urban. They are awarded based on merit and on the basis of the students most likely improve the lives of Indian people.
Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher, some work experience, a track record of leadership, and a strong commitment to their Indian community.
Fellows will receive a monetary award to help with educational expenses. The award will be presented at the DMG Leaders Fellowship Banquet on May 2nd. Gipp Fellows from previous years are invited to attend the banquet (2010 - Kara Four Bear, 2011 Rolenthea Begay). The recipients are chosen by President David M. Gipp.
