This summer, for one week in
June and one week the end of July/first of August, the Smithsonian will
be here on campus to offer Institutes for pre-service and novice
teachers, of which you are either one or the other (pre-service: before
graduation/novice:
3 or less years of experience).
This is a phenomenal experience and the participants will come away
with a wealth of materials that are ready to use in your classrooms.
The cost to bring the Smithsonian people here, and all of their
materials for presenting and your involvement, is significant
so I want as many of you as possible to be able to participate so we
get full value for the cost.
Because you were/are a Sweet Grass Project participant, and I have
money left in the budget for this year (carry-over funds), I would be
able to provide you with an honorarium of $750 per week x 2 Institutes =
$1,500 total - under the "mentorship" budget
line. You would have to attend both sessions in order to be eligible
for the honorarium. I do not have additional money for travel, lodging
or meals separate from the honorarium for the week - the maximum you
would receive for attending both weeks is $1,500.
If you are interested in attending, please complete the application and return it to Leah Hamann before May
17th. If we do not hear from you, or receive your completed application,
we will presume you are not interested and
your "slot" will go to somebody else. Ignore the places where it says
to submit payment, etc. - the Sweet Grass grant will pay for your
registration.
You can either mail or fax your application to Leah - she has all of the details on the application form.
This should be REALLY, REALLY good so I hope it will fit in your schedules!!!!!
