During the week of April 11-15, the campus Safety Committee will be conducting a lockdown drill of our whole campus to help us prepare for if an event should ever occur that would require a true lockdown. The lockdown will be initiated by our Emergency Notification System (ENS); the message will indicate that it is only a drill so as not to alarm anyone, but COMPLETE COMPLIANCE IS EXPECTED BY ALL. If you have not yet signed up for our ENS; you may do so by following this link: http://www.uttc.edu/ens/.
When the ENS message comes out announcing the drill you are to:
1. Go to nearest secure area (room with a lockable door if possible).
2. Grab any unclaimed persons along the way.
3. Lock all doors and windows & close all shades or blinds
4. Direct everyone to stay away from doors and windows
5. Use furniture for protection, concealment, stay low, and remain quiet.
6. Quiet all forms of media (turn off radios & computer speakers, set cell phones to vibrate, if your land line phone rings do not answer, etc. This is so if someone were outside they would not know anyone was in the room.)
7. Do not open the door or leave the room unless otherwise directed to do so by the ENS announcing an all clear or the Director of Safety, UTTC Security or Burleigh County Sheriff’s Department, EVEN IF FIRE ALARMS ARE SOUNDING, because if this was a real crisis there may be a gunman in the hallway! In that event you would exit only if you are in imminent danger due to smoke or fire. Exit outside of the building via classroom windows, if possible.
If you receive the message & you are off campus &/or driving to campus please stay off campus until the all clear announcement has been made.
During this drill there will be people walking around observing how well we respond to this drill; you will know if someone is an observer because they will be wearing a Hi-visibility vest. If you are approached by one of these observers your cooperation with them is required.
FYI - The drill is going to happen at 1:15 PM on one of the days between April 11-15. We don't know which day. Also, its a good idea for you to sign up for the ENS because that's how we were notified of the school closing the day of the blizzard.
