Dispositions Assessments

We're going to be reviewing the Dispositions Assessment Tool with each one of you on an individual basis either the third or fourth week of April. Individual appointments will be scheduled.

The adjunct faculty - Brenda Jechort, Tammy Brown Volk, Theresa Schuchard and Colette Fleck - and the General Ed. faculty (those you have for classes this semester) will rate you on the Assessment Tool this time. The reason we're doing this is because it is important to get input from multiple sources (people) to get a true assessment of your level of proficiency in each of the dispositions identified on the tool.

Our adjunct faculty are valuable members of our teaching team. They typically don't have as much teaching experience at the adult level but the practical pedagogical skills and knowledge they have far exceeds those of us who have been out of the PreK-12 classrooms for awhile. They complement our program and contribute to the success of our graduates, particularly with the Praxis II tests you will be required to pass for licensure.

As you know, you must have a score of 2.0 in all areas of the Dispositions Assessment Tool to remain in good standing in the program. If your score falls below a 2.0, you will participate in a Corrective Action Plan to increase your score to an acceptable level. Many of you are getting to the point in your education program that falling below 2.0 will affect your progress. (You cannot register for practicum or student teach if you have a score below 2.0.)

We are preparing "competent, caring teachers". Dispositions are important indicators of your future success, more so than grade point average or any other measures. If there is an area you feel you can improve upon, and typically we know ourselves best, you have 5-6 weeks between now and the time of the assessment to demonstrate proficiency to the people who will be assessing you.

If you have any questions, please feel free to visit with Lisa A., Leah, Cindy or Lisa C. Thanks!
