I wanted to give you an update on the program review we had last week. As you all know, there was a team of 8 people here on campus to go through every detail of our proposed bachelor degree program. On Friday, Dr. Cheryl Nilsen, from Minot State University, and Dr. Janet Welk, from ND Education Standards & Practices Board, met with President Gipp, the Vice Presidents, and a few others of us and shared their preliminary decision. The team's decision was that we met all 6 of the 6 National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) standards. This was great news!!!!
The next step is the team will submit their recommendations to the ND Education Standards & Practices Board. This board makes the final decision, based on the team's recommendations. This will happen at their meeting on March 10th.
As Vice President Baird said in his congratulatory email, this is "historic" for UTTC. Dr. Karen Swisher Comeau, former president (and the first female) of Haskell said by meeting these 6 standards, we have proved we have a model program for Teacher Education.
As the first bachelor degree program approved at UTTC, you are part of this. It's because of students like you, in part, that we "look so good"!
